The Guardian 4 measures interstitial glucose every 5 minutes and transmits readings directly to the MiniMed 780G, where the SmartGuard algorithm uses that data to automatically adjust basal delivery and issue correction boluses. No routine fingerstick calibrations are required in SmartGuard mode, though a single blood glucose reading may be needed when first activating it. Each sensor provides up to 7 days of wear. Approved for use with the MiniMed 780G in people with Type 1 diabetes aged 7 to 80 with a total daily insulin dose of 8 units or more.
